Digital‑coupon platform Ibotta has secured an exclusive role as the third‑party provider of consumer‑packaged‑goods (CPG) offers across the 7‑Eleven app ecosystem, a deal that extends to the retailer’s 7NOW and Speedway applications.

Ibotta gains access to a vast convenience‑store network

The agreement gives Ibotta a pathway to more than 11,500 U.S. store locations and an estimated 100 million loyalty members. Through its Performance Network platform, the company will enable CPG brands to run pay‑for‑performance promotions that are triggered only after a verified sale is recorded.

Shoppers can clip Ibotta‑enabled offers within any of the 7‑Eleven apps before completing a purchase in‑store, at fuel pumps, or via delivery. The arrangement excludes age‑restricted products, but otherwise opens the convenience channel to the same closed‑loop measurement tools Ibotta has used in grocery and delivery contexts.

“7‑Eleven and Speedway stores represent a significant opportunity for CPG brands with enormous purchase volume,” said Bryan Leach, Ibotta founder and CEO. “We are excited to bring our leading digital offer content and best‑in‑class measurement capabilities to 7‑Eleven.”

Performance‑based promotions become the norm in convenience retail

Under the terms, CPG manufacturers will pay only when a consumer actually purchases the promoted product, a model that aims to improve accountability and reduce wasted spend. Yaqub Baiani, chief product officer at 7‑Eleven, noted that the partnership “gives CPG brands a leading performance‑based solution inside one of the most powerful loyalty programs in convenience retail.”

The Performance Network is slated to introduce closed‑loop measurement for CPG promotions at this scale for the first time in the convenience sector. By linking the offer to a verified transaction, the platform can provide brands with data on redemption rates, incremental sales, and return on ad spend.

For consumers, the process is straightforward: an offer appears in the app, the shopper clips it, and the discount is applied at checkout. The system confirms the sale before any payment is billed to the brand, ensuring that promotional budgets are tied directly to outcomes.

Industry observers have noted that the move aligns with a broader trend of retailers leveraging data‑driven loyalty programs to attract brand spend. The exclusive nature of the deal means Ibotta will be the sole provider of such offers across all of 7‑Eleven’s digital touchpoints, limiting competition in this niche.

From a practical standpoint, the collaboration could reshape how everyday items are marketed at convenience stores. Brands that previously relied on blanket discounts may now target specific shoppers with offers that only trigger when the product moves, potentially leading to more precise inventory management and reduced waste.

Financial backdrop and future collaboration prospects

The partnership follows a recent capital raise by 7‑Eleven’s parent, Seven & i Holdings. The Japanese group secured roughly Y300 billion (about $1.91 billion) from investors including SoftBank, PayPay and Sumitomo Mitsui Card. Each investor subscribed for Y100 billion, equivalent to 48.30 million common shares.

This infusion supports a broader set of collaborations spanning digital payments, loyalty programmes and AI‑driven store operations. The Ibotta deal fits within that larger strategy, offering a technology‑focused angle on consumer engagement.

While the agreement promises new data streams for brands, it also raises questions about the balance of power in the convenience‑store ecosystem. With Ibotta positioned as the exclusive conduit for CPG promotions, brands may find fewer alternatives for reaching shoppers through the 7‑Eleven network.
