Albertsons and Chevron have launched a joint plan that lets shoppers combine loyalty credits for lower pump prices, a move that could shave up to $1.50 off each gallon at participating locations.

How the combined credits work

Customers who link their grocery card with the fuel brand’s Texaco Rewards account can apply both sets of credits to a single fill‑up.

Discount limits and regional differences:

At sites outside California and Hawai‘i, the grocer’s credits can cut the price by as much as $1 per gallon, while the fuel brand’s credits add up to 50 cents. In the two states where the grocery side is capped at 20 cents, the combined effect can still reach 70 cents per gallon.

The partnership builds on a relationship that began in 2012, when the fuel brand first offered price cuts to shoppers of the grocery chain’s California stores. The new setup expands that model nationwide, though the exact benefit varies by market. Over the years, both companies have refined the program to suit regional pricing pressures.

One cautious observation is that the joint credits may attract price‑sensitive drivers, yet the limited cap could leave frequent travelers seeking deeper cuts elsewhere.

If the two firms monitor usage patterns, they might tweak the thresholds to keep the offer attractive without eroding margins.

Each transaction can apply the combined benefit to a maximum of 25 gallons for a single vehicle. Under the scheme, every 100 points earned at the grocery side translates to a 10‑cent reduction per gallon.

Shoppers cannot use the fuel brand’s credits at the grocery chain’s own gas outlets, and the benefit is unavailable in the Jewel‑Osco market that covers Illinois, Indiana and Iowa. The exclusion applies despite the broader partnership.

The sponsors also backed the Albertsons Boise Open golf tournament earlier in August in Idaho, highlighting their collaborative marketing efforts.

Last year the grocery side added a travel perk, allowing members to earn rebates of up to 5% on hotel and activity bookings, plus 1% on airfare, with higher‑tier members receiving double those rates.
